Opportunity to Help Rebuild
Dear Family, Friends and Pastors,
An opportunity has presented itself over the last three months that I believe to be divinely providential at the birthplace of America, Jamestown. Let me explain.
A private meeting was arranged by a Williamsburg couple who are large supporters of Colonial Williamsburg to meet with Dr. William Kelso, the head archaeologists at the historic Jamestown Fort dig. This Jamestown Rediscover Project is in its 17th year. This project started the same time we started our church, Jamestown Christian Fellowship in Williamsburg. So, this is our churches 17th anniversary on March 31st. There are just too many parallels like this that makes what happened at the end of 2011 make sense and why I’m writing this letter.
For those of you who don't know, the first permanent structured church in America that the colonists built at Jamestown was discovered in 2010. It was built in 1608. The discovery was considered a top ten archaeological find in the world-wide archaeological circles in 2011.
In this structure, from the initial landing on May 13th, 1607 until his death in 1608, Reverend Robert Hunt encouraged the settlers with the Word of God morning and evening and served communion in the New World. There is a monument on Jamestown Island that commemorates him serving communion to the settlers. It’s the only monument like it in the world. That makes a statement all by itself.
Also, in June, 1610, Lord De La Warr kept the Jamestown settlement from being abandoned after three years of disease, starvation and Indian attacks that all but wiped out the colony.
In this church, Matoka (Pocahontas) was baptized and given her Christian name, Rebecca. One of the greatest spiritual events that took place in this building was when John Rolfe, an Englishman and Pocahontas, Chief Powhatan’s daughter were married. This signified a marriage between two sovereign nations, England and the Powhatan Confederation, a group of over 30 tribes. This marriage in 1614 brought a great hope to both the English and the indigenous people who now shared Virginia. Virginia was the name first given to America before it was divided into states.
This is where I need to give you the current facts.
Just before Christmas I was given the opportunity to do a joint presentation of the significance of the 1608 Jamestown Church with Dr. Kelso. He is so excited about this discovery and believes it to be providential as well. He gave a power point presentation of the location on the Island and what it would have looked like with a 3D graphic. I then got up and gave a presentation on the importance of rebuilding that church. At the end of the presentation I handed Dr. Kelso an envelope with $2,500.00 from our church that was taken up the Sunday before after I gave a plea to our congregation to rebuild this significant Christian landmark. Kelso was overwhelmed.
Now, we as the Body of Christ, on our watch, get an opportunity to invest in rebuilding an ancient altar for God. It was the original spot that Rev. Robert Hunt made covenant with the people and the land. I give this letter enough emphasis to ask you or your church to get involved in helping to finance this important structure in American history.
When I asked Dr. Kelso for an estimate to begin the rebuilding process he informed me that it would take around $14,000.00 to frame it and a little over $100,000.00 do it right. My goal is to help raise enough money for Dr. Kelso to get the structure framed and then look at our other options. I believe this is an opportunity that we, the body of Christ may not be presented with for a long time. This is amazing! Your donation can take part in rebuilding the history of America Christendom.
If you would like to participate, write you check to Jamestown Rediscover Project and send it to our church and I will present it to Dr. Kelso over the next few months until our first $14,000.00 goal has been reached. This is so attainable. Please help in this amazing project…. Send your donations to JCF 5306 Olde Towne Road Williamsburg, VA 23188
God Bless America,
Wade Trump
